Prof. Dr. Ronald Batenburg, Programme leader at NIVEL and Professor of Health Workforce and Organisation Studies at Radboud University Nijmegen
Prof. Ronald Batenburg, PhD is programme leader at NIVEL and Professor in Health Workforce and Organisation Studies at the Radboud University Nijmegen. He leads the ROUTE-HWF consortium and acts as project manager. He was project manager of the EU project ‘Core Competences of Healthcare Assistants in Europe’ (CC4HCA, 2015-2016). He is current president of the Special Interest Group on the Health Workforce of the European Health Management Association (EHMA) and vice-president of the European Public Health Association (EUPHA) section on Health Workforce Research.
In the Netherlands, he led the ‘Health Monitor Underserved Areas’ (2015-2017) commissioned by the Ministry of Health, and coordinated a nationwide project on regional factsheets to monitor the supply and demand for primary care and inform regional health workforce development and policy (2017-2019). He also works as a scientific consultant for WHO on supporting Kyrgyzstan in the initiation and planning of a HWF programme, and previously on the development of the National Health Workforce Accounts (NHWA). He is editor-in-chief of the Dutch ‘Journal of Labour Issues’ and authored more than 100 papers and reports.
Dr. Linda Flinterman, Senior researcher
Linda Flinterman, PhD is a senior health services researcher at NIVEL. She has an educational background in biomedical science and epidemiology. She has experience in a wide variety of subjects in healthcare mainly quantitative but also qualitative. At NIVEL she is, among other things, responsible for the development of the projections for health work force planning in the Netherlands. She was part of the EU Horizon 2020 Health, demographic change and well-being project Harmoniccs on optimizing the use of population and patient cohort for patients with Sjogrens disease.
Linda is a member of the WP1 and WP4 teams and contributes to other WPs.
Dr. Sorin Dan, Assistant Professor
Sorin Dan, PhD is Assistant Professor in the School of Management at the University of Vaasa in Finland and a member of the University of Vaasa’s Administrative Sciences Research Group. He completed his PhD at KU Leuven in Belgium (2015) with a thesis that investigated coordination problems in three healthcare systems: Estonia, Romania and Norway. He has offered consultancy services to the OECD and the European Commission and has authored over 30 publications, including The Coordination of European Public Hospital Systems: Interests, Cultures and Resistance, published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2017, and Payment systems and incentives in primary care: implications of recent reforms in Estonia and Romania, published in the International Journal of Health Planning and Management. He was deputy member of the steering group Nordic NaBS: New Nordic Nature Based Service Models project (2019-2021).
Sorin leads the WP2 and WP5 teams.
Prof. Dr. Joaquim Bañeres, MD, MSc is Director of FAD
He is Associate Professor at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and holds the Donabedian Research Chair in Quality at the Faculty of Medicine. He has over 30 years of experience in the field of quality improvement in healthcare, including implementation and management of quality assurance/improvement plans. He participated in several national and EU financed projects in the area of healthcare quality (e.g. PATSAFE, COMPAR-EU).
Joaquim will lead the WP6 team and contribute to other WPs.
Marta Ballester, MSc, Researcher and Project manager
Marta Ballester, BPolySci, MSc is a researcher and project manager at FAD. She is currently participating in the leading team of the COMPAR-EU project. At a European level she participated in the projects: EMPATHiE, PISCE, PRO-STEP, EMPATTICS and PaSQ . In addition, she is currently a researcher in the e-MPODERA project and leading the project of implementation of a tool for assessment of social complexity in 105 social service areas in Catalonia (Spain).
Marta is a member of the WP6 team.
Dr. Ana Isabel González, MD, Senior researcher
Ana Isabel González, MD, PhD is a senior researcher at FAD and at the Institute of General Practice of Goethe University (Germany). She is a general practitioner since 2000. She has sound experience and knowledge in clinical quality and performance research, as she has participated in several research projects (e.g. COMPAR-EU, e-mpodera), and has been in charge of the development and improvement of health services (e.g. implementing the Strategy for the Care of Chronic Patients in Madrid Health Service).
Ana leads the WP6 team and contributes to other WPs.
Dr. Alicja Domagała, Associate Professor, Department of Health Policy and Management
Alicja Domagała, PhD is an Associate Professor at the Department of Health Policy and Management at Jagiellonian University. She has broad experience in HWF related research and teaching. She was manager of the project “Career satisfaction of physicians in Poland: comparing levels and associated factors with other European countries – in the context of the migration problem” (2016-2018). Since 2007, she coordinates the module “Human resource for health” within the international educational project EuroPubHealth.
She also coordinated several Leonardo da Vinci EU Projects (2002-2011), including “Towards Development of the European Network of postgraduate and Continuous Education of GPs”. In 2017-2019 dr. Domagala participated in the WHO research project: EVIPNET Poland – Situation Analysis on Evidence-Informed Health Policy Making.
Alicja leads the WP7 team and contributes to other WPs.
Dr. Katarzyna Dubas-Jakóbczyk, Associate Professor, Department of Health Economics and Social Security
Katarzyna Dubas-Jakóbczyk, PhD works as an Associate Professor at the Department of Health Economics and Social Security at Jagiellonian University. She worked as a leading consultant for several projects run by the World Health Organization and the World Bank. One of her areas of expertise is capacity planning in hospital care, including HWF related issues. She has participated in a project on Polish physician satisfaction and migration intentions and has co-authored several publications in this area.
Katarzyna is a member of the WP7 team and contributes to other WPs.
Dr. Robert Likic, MD, Associate professor of Internal Medicine and Therapeutics, University Hospital Centre Zagreb
Dr. Robert Likic qualified in Medicine with honors at the University of Zagreb Medical School in 2001, after receiving the Dean’s award for the best student of medicine in 1999. Following internship, he trained in general internal medicine at the University Hospital Centre Zagreb. He was awarded a PhD degree in 2008. He currently holds a tenured position of an associate professor in internal medicine and prescribing at the Zagreb Medical School and works as a consultant internist and clinical pharmacologist at the University Hospital Centre Zagreb while continuing to have an active research interest.
Dr. Likic has had significant success in international collaboration with funding secured from the British Council to organize a multinational meeting in Zagreb in 2008 on rational use of medicines and he received the Matovinovic fellowship award in 2009, which allowed him to spend 6 months working as a visiting scholar at the University of Michigan Medical School, Ann Arbor. From 2017 onwards, he is a member of the editorial board of the Croatian Medical Journal and from 2019 onwards, he is active as an executive editor at the British Journal for Clinical Pharmacology.
Robert leads the WP8 team and contributes to other WPs.
